Don't remember where I found this photo (I think the coat is in a museum), but ever since I saw it I have wanted to make something similar.
First step, and often the most challenging, is finding the right fabric and notions. After spending a few hours searching on Google and some of my favourite fabric haunts, I found a burgundy silk velvet and some beautiful silk/cotton blends (courtesy of www.fabric.com & Amazon).
Since I don't have an embroidery machine, I'll have to find another way to make a pattern on the velvet to give the garment even more oomph! The simplest way I can think of to achieve that is with a braided or fancy trim. Or by doing appliques, but that can be very tedious if there's a lot of them. For the moment though let's just start with the basics. Once the fabric arrives, it's time to draft a pattern!

Pixels & Cube
First post is of a fabric design that I am very fond of: a Minecraft Heads Cube Pillow.
It was one of the first designs I did for my Spoonflower shop (http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/1624426), and now it has a cozy spot on the back of my couch.
I love Spoonflower...and Etsy, they're great places if you like hand crafted items!
Stay tuned for more nerdy goodness!
